Adam Erlandsson at Svd has written a nice blog post about his wishes for 2008.

 On top of the list is in bold: "Death to DRM". 

Headweb is then mentioned as a rather lonely service offering DRM free movie downloads. 

Adam, while this was our wish for 2007, there's a much bigger probability this will actually happen this year. I think the recent increase in consumer awareness about the downsides of DRM and more DRM free music services will change the movie industry too since millions of people avoid DRM like the plague and go elsewhere to find music and movies.

The year has already given us some interesting and positive news in the DRM arena:

Last year EMI was the first of the four big record labels to drop DRM on online music. Then Universal, the biggest label in the world followed. Warner soon joined the party and now it seems like Sony BMG doesn't have much choice other than to join too. Source

This is great news for consumers, distributors and artists, and while it might be too early to speak of the death of DRM on online music, it certainly feels like DRM is slowly becoming a thing of the past.

Now, this doesn't come as a surprise to us at Headweb, we've always believed in DRM free downloads and will continue to offer all our content DRM free. Our hopes and wishes this year is to see all the big movie studios take the same great decision and get rid of DRM too. We're trying hard to convince them to take this step and are confident that this will happen.
