Arsène Lupin
Arsene Lupin is a retelling of the glamorous life of the most celebrated jewel thief of Belle epoque Europe. As a young boy Arsene steals a particularly necklace once worn by Marie Antoinette. Still on the run from the law as an adult, Arsene returns to his childhood home and, with a false name, takes a job as a martial arts teacher. One night he spies on a gathering of Royalist plotters as they condemn to death the Countess of Cagliostro. Lupin saves her and thus begins their intertwining fates.
Starring the rising star Romain Duris (The Beat That My Heart Skipped, Russian Dolls), Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient, Gosford Park) and Eva Green (The Dreamers, Kingdom of Heaven) Arsene Lupin is based on the famous French book and is very much the French 19th century equivalent to James Bond. The film, with a budget of 23 million Euro, made a great success in French theatres.
