Plot

Urania Cabral (Isabella Rossellini) is a successful Manhattan lawyer who returns to her native country, the Dominican Republic, after a 30 year absence. She comes to see her ailing father, the former President of the Senate and devoted right-hand man of General "The Goat" Trujillo. Her aunt and cousins question why she hasn't come to see her father for so long, and Urania tells her story together with a secret she's been hiding all those years. Flashbacks unfold the events surrounding the assassination of the dictator in 1961, and the end of an era under one of Latin America's bloodiest tyrants ever.

The film is based on the bestselling novel La Fiesta del Chivo by Nobel Prize-winning author Mario Vargas Llosa. Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart) plays the part of Urania and Tomas Milian (Traffic, Amistad) portrays the infamous dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. Peruvian director Luis Llosa has spent the last fifteen years in Hollywood making blockbuster movies (Anaconda, The Specialist), but he now returns to his home continent to tell a piece of Latin American history.
