”A wild, intensely cinematic ride into two men's burning desire to get even.”

”Park carefully unwraps his mystery with a cinematic precision akin to Fincher’s Seven and a blind, driving bloodlust close to his own Sympathy. Stunningly, he reaches into a toolbox of cinematic devices ranging from deft cutaways and narrative loops to swirling clock motifs and full-frame images of stunning interiors.”

”If you love GREAT CINEMA, find this movie and put in the teeth guard, cuz it'll knock your teeth out!”
Toronto International Film Festival
”As mannered as a hyper-violent manga, yet masterfully framed in the archetypal structure of a Greek tragedy, director Park Chan-wook's Old Boy intoxicates its audience with the perilous, vindictive tango of a torturer and his victim ensnared in a crescendo of psychological gore. Blinding glare and violent darkness create the dense tapestry of this tale of incest, vengeance and wounded amorality. Punctuated by moments of cold cruelty the mystery of Oh's imprisonment is deftly unveiled by Park's powerful storytelling. The dense cinematography, stripped-bare poetic dialogue, hypnotic editing and elliptical narrative all climax in a stunning yet ultimately unemotional ballad recounting memories first lost, then found and distorted.”
Variety
”Park Chan-wook's hard-hitting Old Boy has opened to rapturous critical reviews, as well as a #1 performance at the local box-office. Although not likely to be a huge smash hit, the film has become a common topic of conversation and it is likely to easily earn back its budget. It is also selling extremely well overseas, with Toshiba paying a record price for Japanese rights, and Hollywood studios showing interest in North American theatrical and remake rights.”
