Plot
Chile 1973. "Machuca" is an astonishingly intimate and painful coming-of-age story about a pair of 12-year-old boys from opposite extremes of society who form an unlikely friendship during the runup to the coup. Gonzalo Infante (Matías Quer) is the privileged youth in the tidy uniform of St. Patrick's private school, and Machuca (Ariel Mateluna) is one of a handful of ragtag boys from an illegal shantytown brought to the school as an exercise in social integration by its left-wing principal, Father McEnroe (Ernesto Malbran).
