It's 1965, and Bev is a bright Connecticut girl who dreams of moving to New York City to become a writer. But her life takes a turn when a fling with a not-too-bright dropout produces a baby--and a husband (Steve Zahn). Six years down the road, she is a single mother with no career prospects. After years of perseverance, she realizes that she and her son, separated in age by only 15 years, have grown up together, and that the "obstacles" of child rearing have defined her life.
